Chris Conidis The Art of The Show
Welcome to my portfolio. The Heart of the Show.
Every themed attraction has a core story, even if it’s not immediately obvious to guests. It’s my job to make sure that story shines through. Writing for theme parks is more than just penning clever lines or jokes (although that’s always fun); it’s about ensuring the dialogue, the pacing, and even the smallest details work in harmony with the larger environment.
Take the iconic Haunted Mansion, for instance. The script for the Ghost Host doesn’t just deliver information; it establishes tone, builds suspense, and subtly guides guests through a spooky-yet-humorous experience. The brilliance of this lies in how seamlessly the writing integrates with the architecture, music, and visuals to create a cohesive world.
When I write, I aim for that same level of cohesion. Whether it’s a queue pre-show, a character-driven interactive moment, or even a sarcastic in-world sign, the goal is to immerse guests so deeply that they stop seeing the “edges” of the experience.
